july 13 2016: week 2 in dawson

After a successful week in Ross River, in which we saw some awesome kids learn how to "speak cello" and express themselves in this new form of music making, we're set up in Dawson with day camps and adult lessons underway. A very different town than Ross, but still the same incredible curiosity from these budding cellists. Getting ready for concert and radio performances later this week!

Back online after a little while on the highway and in some of the farther corners of the Yukon. We're halfway through our camp here in Ross River. It's been an eye-opening experience to see just how curious these kids are to learn: Yesterday when one student had to take a break from practicing, he went over to the computer in the classroom and logged onto Youtube. Sure enough, instead of looking up video game clips or anything else 11-year-old boys search on there, he went straight to videos of cello playing to check out what there was. To see this seemingly limitless appetite for learning, after hours of practicing, is incredibly inspiring for us as teachers. Here's to more new experiences in this special place!

A huge thank you goes out to all those involved with organizing the event, as well as to Laura Hillis, Jack Colish, and Julia McDougall for playing with us.

April 28 2016: Lift-off

We are so excited to have the support of Whitehorse Concerts to get this project off the ground. Although it has required a large amount of work to get this project from an idea to a concrete plan with community support, we know that our biggest effort lies in what's to come. We have a large fundraising task ahead of us, but I believe strongly in our vision and I am confident that our generous donors will feel the same way. Looking forward to turning this idea into real change!
